Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…

I had something of a fright recently: I looked in the mirror and saw my mother’s face. It was a surprise because I always thought I looked like my father. As I leaned in closer and adjusted my glasses I realized the old saying, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all” was true. It isn’t a bad thing. My mother was a lovely, gracious kind woman. I can aspire to nothing less!

I look like my Dad’s father and his sister. I am even built like them I was told I have my Aunt’s personality.
Which to me is a good thing. Because we are both out going.

You are the lucky one! I look in the mirror and see my father! He was an okay looking man, but I would rather look like my mom. My daughter looks just like her!

I have looked like my mother since I turned 50, was a shock to see her in the mirror. Tomorrow I turn 61 years old, celebrating our birthdays again together Debbie. Every morning I say “Hi Mom” as I get ready for the day. Mom passed away in 2013 at the age of 81.

After my mother passed my sister got married. When it was my turn in the reception line, she turned away and started crying. I always knew I looked like my mother, but I didn’t realize I would cause such a reaction. She seemed okay during the reception, but it was a moment I will never forget. After that I decided to let my hair grow. It did help!! Then I had my hair cut off to donate to Pantene for their real-hair wigs for cancer patients. Little did I know that I would be losing all my hair. I had an aggressive breast tumor…chemo was not fun, but it was worth it in the end. After two years of the fight, I’m hoping my oncologist will release me from his care!!

I got off the subject, but it was my sister who came to take care of me for seven months. She still sees our mother in my face, but she is handling it much better now.

People have seen pictures of me in Mexico, and say “Oh, your mom went with you”. I am the spitting image of her when I wear a hat.

I look like my Dad and my Grandma, when I was about 12 or 14 my Grandma showed me a picture and she said who is this in the picture? I looked it and said well, I would think it was me but I don’t dress like that, my Grandma was about the same age in the picture. She was born in 1898 so it wss the clothing of the early 1900’s. But my Dad looked like his Dad but he looked like his Mom too. My Dad sold pianos and organs. Us kids took turns going to work with him. My little brother it was turn, he was reading while my Dad was napping. These people came in and told my brother don’t wake him yet. When they were ready they said ok wake him My Dad stood up and they said Shorty Wise my Dad said that was said that was my Dad. They were amazed how much he looked like his Dad. Well the funny thing wad my Dad grew up On a farm in Alberta Canada. We immigrated to Seattle in the early 60’s. Well I rattled on long enough Debbie you are great Hope to see you soon at a book signing Federal Way or Kent Southcenter. MERRY CHRISTMAS

I sound like my mother sometimes. My daughter will call and whe. I answer she say hello Ruth. The thing that is scary is that it’s almost like she is standing beside me because I hear Mother’s voice too.

I have had a similar happening, not that my Mom wasn’t attractive outwardly, but the older she gets the crankier and more selfish. I don’t want to be like that. I do think it is funny though when my daughters have similar looks. I even found little stuffed bears with mirrors that have the saying on it.?

My mom has early onset dementia, so I moved in with her about two years ago. Now I see her daily, I see her in my girls, and my 2.11 Year old granddaughter.. when moms asleep, I see my grand aunt and my maternal grandfather lying there … I’m surrounded by Mom! ? When I turned 60 in August, I took a selfie … it was a picture of my Mom!
I love her, and miss her, dementia steals not only memory, but the person she grew into. I can’t always share memories, or recipes, or tell her about daily stuff, I can only share that moment in that moment … I miss her. ?

I have been told my entire life that I look exactly like my mother (I do). I didn’t give it alot of thought growing up but now that she’s gone, sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself and it startles me. I can only hope I am half the woman she was.

In the last 10 years I can see more of my mom in me and the scary part or not so scary part is how my mannerism is staring be be just like hers. I love her to pieces and talk with her almost every day. And to paraphrase you “I aspire to be nothing less.” Love you Irene!

It’s funny how my sister next to me & I look like my Dad. And my 2 older sisters looked so much like my Mom. I had a friend tell me at my Mom’s funeral seeing my oldest sister and my brother (poor thing is right in the middle) was like seeing Tillie & Ingvar. That’s when I really took notice, and realized I see it!

I had my hair cut off short this summer.
And there she was.. Strange when I always have seen my paternal
grandmother in the mirror before.. I love my mother deeply and miss
her so.. She suffers from severe dementia.
