Grandma Camp
I regret it’s taken so long to update a blog. As the saying goes, I’ve been so busy I’ve been chasing my own tail!
One reason I was so busy last week is because it was my annual Grandma Camp with my granddaughters! This year we headed to Chicago, where we had fun shopping the Miracle Mile and attended the musical, “Crowns.”
It was serendipity that while we were visiting, The Taste of Chicago was going on—and it was wonderful. My favorite taste? The Chicago hot dog!
A special memory that will stay with me is one evening when our dinner was delayed. To pass the time, we asked each other questions. Who was your first kiss, Grandma? (My cousin!) What’s the very first thing you can remember? Now that you’re old (old!?) what would you do differently? These are treasured moments with my granddaughters that will stay with me. I hope they will with them, too.
Tomorrow I hope to post an update from Wayne with his adventures from Grandpa Camp.
Grandma Camp
This is a special week. I’m doing Grandma Camp with my three granddaughters, starting Thursday. We’re heading to Yakima, Washington, where I was born and raised. I’m going to show them the hospital where I was born (it has a new name now!) and the house where I grew up (new owners, of course). We’ll go to the church where their grandfather and I were married. (The priest who married us has since left the priesthood.) Plus the parking lot where my high school once stood (St. Joseph Academy). (My gosh, writing all this really brings home how much things have changed, but hopefully I’ll still find things that haven’t.) I’ve shared my passions with my granddaughters, and I thought this year I would share my childhood with them.

Grandma Camp
My two nine-year-old granddaughters, Bailey and Maddie, are coming to Grandma camp this week, starting today. I have an entire itinerary set up for the three of us as I share my passions with my two youngest granddaughters. We’re starting off this afternoon with a pedicure, followed by cake baking and decorating. (Jazmine and I have now completed the cake decorating class—although I have yet to master making roses and clowns out of frosting. Still, it’s been great fun.)
Following the baking, I’ll be giving knitting lessons . . . that’s when the real fun begins. The week will conclude with a marathon shopping session and lunch out. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of giggles along the way, too. Does this sound like fun, or what?
