Thanks to big gifts, SKHS to get turf field
Cinderella just got the glass slipper. After decades of play on a poorly drained grass field that turned to muck a few games into any sports season, athletes and community members will get a high-quality turf field and new track at South Kitsap High School, thanks to two generous donors. Kitsap Bank has pledged $504,000 toward the new field, which will henceforth be known as Kitsap Bank Stadium, School Board President Chris Lemke announced Tuesday. Debbie Macomber, best-selling author and longtime South Kitsap resident, with husband Wayne will donate $150,000 to rebuild the track where their late son, Dale, was a standout runner.
