Taking a leap of faith

My writing career began at our kitchen table with a rented typewriter. Eventually that evolved into my own writing space with a computer and printer and even a small copy machine. I was in business. When our youngest was a senior in high school I felt it was time to network with other business owners. I rented a small office in a business complex and hired my first employee. It was more than a little intimidating to sign a lease and take on the responsibility of providing a salary for an employee, especially when I couldn’t count on a regular paycheck. This was a big leap of faith for me. I asked God to guide me and He did and continues to do so. My first full time employee was Renate Roth and she’s been my right hand for the last 21 years. Our tiny one window office has turned into an entire complex.

Hi Debbie,
I didn’t know that Renate was your very first employee. You were and are a very lucky lady the day you hired her, and I’m sure she feels the same way.
The Lord put you in each other’s path for a reason, one that has worked for 21 years and I have no
Doubt will last forever.
Bob and I are so Blessed to know you both.
Hope to see you in May when we do our Canada,Washington,Oregon trip
Bye for now Helen OlsonI

I first read your stories in Guideposts Daily Devotional. I’m from the West Coast and following your stories made me feel close ro home in Cali. My friend gave me GP for Christmas 2006 and I cant wait to get the new years to keep up with the latest with not only you but others.
I took GODS GUEST BOOK along as my book to read on my trip home in Oct 2015. I was born and raised in Cali and always feel so close to home when I read your stories. Anyway God had challenged me to meet strangers and journal who I meet. I always start out on Mendocino CA. And many strangers to follow and there it was in your book before I had even read it. God is smiling I know. And I’ll mention your book that challenged me to watch for Gods Guests. So inspiring. I’m amazed at how you keep writing and have such a wonderful life too. Time management. EH? You are a true inspiration. You feel like a sister.
I love my Jesus. And God thank You for all the gifted people. Vicki

Last One Home, I just finished this book and was very moved by the characters and the subject matter of abuse. It takes a strong woman to get herself out of that situation and not without scars of body and mind.
Thank you

A few years back, an acquaintance was thinning out her book collection, living in a manufactured/mobile home there is only so much space. She had all but two of the Cedar Cove series. I opened the first book, not knowing what to expect. I tore through all the books that were in the box and attacked the library for the remainder.
That led to the Rose Harbour series, Heart of Texas, Dakota and Blossom Street Books. I seem to be able to read faster than you can write, but please keep creating such wonderful stories with the engaging characters or moral value. There is such a lack of that in this world.
Your faithful reader, Anne

I’m so happy you are still writing books. Enjoy and love every one I’ve read and want it to go on for ever. So glad your right hand lady is still with you. Thank you for writing great books and sharing with us. Keep them coming. God Bless and good luck always. Anna Moore.

Thank you for following God’s guidance, even though it was a huge step of faith for you. I mostly listen to audible books with my husband. We live with our daughter and her husband and three children – ages 6, 8, and 10. I never have to worry that one of them will come in my sewing room (where we listen to your audio book) and have something being said that would be inappropriate for their young ears. Thank you very much.

I love your story! I really relate to you! I am 36 and just starting my writing journey. In those first moments you were deciding to attempt writing while the little ones were at church how did you deal with doubts or fears? I send my 3 little kids to school and read and write, but often the first step of beginning to write each day seems like a mountain of getting over doubt. I love your books and you have great characters! Can’t wait for the next one!

You are THE BEST author in my opinion, you deserve to be blessed. I love your books and look forward to every new one.

You are my favorite author! I love all of your books especially the ones in a series and the ones that have been made into Hallmark movies and series. I have printed out your entire list of books off your website and it is my goal to read everyone on your list and am enjoying and loving every minute of it. It has been my rock to do this through some bad times with my family and my own health issues. But knowing I have your books to read everyday has helped me more than you will ever know to get through all this even when I get so down and depressed. Your books help me through these days and times. I can’t thank you enough. And also I love to read your blogs, your website and your postings on facebook. You are an inspiration to all of us. I only wish I would have the opportunity to meet you in person someday. Please continue to write! God bless you and your family!

Thank you so much for this encouraging blog! I lost my job of 8 years a few months ago. I have been kicking ideas around of some things I could do from home for income. I’m 59 years old and would like to be my own boss for once in my life. I have been considering an online business of handmade items that I can make with my sewing machine at home. Every successful person had to start somewhere and you are proof that a leap of faith can take you far!

Your book Love Letters was sort of a leap of faith to me.
Decades of failed searching for something to write. I was actually surprised to find romance novels were what I had been seeking most of my life. I have several books being hammered out as we speak.

The first book I ever read of yours was ‘The Snow Bride’. I love your characters and their real-life issues. I also love that no one ends up in bed before marriage. Thank you for that! I am also beginning to write. Your book, ‘My Hero’, was the final push I needed to get started. I thank God that He gave you this talent. May He continue to give you more story lines for future readers.

I was nervous about reading Last One Home because of the wife abuse because I, too, was a victim. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was well-written and I am anxious to read more about the characters.
One last thought. It is hard to leave an abuser. I was not totally alone. I had a wonderful, loving family but the shame of admitting what had happened kept me in the marriage. I thought it was all my fault and there weren’t many options in 1974. Ironically, he left me because of “communication problems” and because I was a “terrible wife.” Maybe subconsciously I wanted him to leave. Who knows. But he did me a huge favor and I quickly found out it wasn’t so bad on my own! My second husband and I will be married 32 years in October!

Copyright 1995 Midnight Sons…we met at a booksigning years ago in Lima, Ohio at the Gifts of Joy , two old librarians and a young writer named Debbie Macomber. By now there should be another generation in the families of the Midnight Sons. I was glad to catch up with Sawyer in your Starry Night, which was another good read. Your Navy books caught me and you have had me hooked ever since..Good luck and God Bless
you and keep you safe in your travels. Happy writing! Beverly Focht

Debbie, you are such an inspiration to me! Not only are you an accomplished writer, but also an amazing cook (love your cookbooks!) and you are skilled at knitting! But most of all you have a warm and caring heart. Your friends are truly blessed!

The first two books of yours that I read were bought at a garage sale. Loved them and have been hooked ever since. I now own most of your books. I got a lot of them off Abebooks.com. I cannot get rid of them, because I reread your books. The ones about Blessing, Texas was real interesting because we had been to Blessing when we were working with the Texas Baptist Men volunteer Builders at Palacious, Texas. We would go Blessing after church on Sunday for lunch. My only complaint is that I finish your last book out and have to wait for a new one. Keep up the good work. Love your style.

I just read your newsletter and am thrilled to see that you are coming to Saratoga NY on Feb. 26. We live about 2 hrs away. My husband just got tickets for both of us to come to see you. I am a BIG fan and own over 80 of your books. So excited to see you in person. Keep writing these beautiful stories. God Bless you & your family.

Hi Debbie. I love your stories so much. You are such an inspiration to us and so thankful that you share your God given talent with all of us. Your stories are going to go on forever. I have read the Blossom Street series at least 3 times, & I know down the line I will read them again. Your characters are people I wish I knew! Lol! that’s how real they seem. and I can’t say enough about Cedar Cove either.
please keep writing.
Blessings to you and your family,
From all of mine (we all read them & trade back & forth)

Debbie,
I can honestly say, from the moment I read your first book, you have become my favorite author. I can’t say that I can pick a favorite book from all you have written, there are too many of them I love to choose just one.
I finished Dashing Through the Snow and Last One Home and loved them both. I am looking forward to the sequels of Last One Home. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about reading a book about an abusive relationship, as I was in one. I am glad it wasn’t the primary part of the book, but you focused on her strength in getting away.
Thank you for sharing your talent and God Bless you,
Laura-Anne

I am hooked on your books. You have such a flare with a sense of humor that is enjoyable to read. You have a way of making me feel I am right there among the characters. I really appreciate the fact that you keep them morally clean and without any sexual suggestions. I will continue to be an avid reader of yours as long as you write as you do.
Please keep writing such enjoyable, relaxing and oh so awesome books.

Please write another mystery about Promise Texas or something like that one.

Debbie, I LOVE your books! The first one I read was “When Christmas Comes” (now called Trading Christmas). That book made me literally laugh out loud!! I live a few towns away from Leavenworth, WA and picturing the guy who hates Christmas arriving in Leavenworth at Christmastime was priceless! Anyway, I was hooked from that moment on! Loved the Blossom Street series, and am working on Cedar Cove! Keep ’em comin!!!

Debbie, First I would like to thank you for all the wonderful adventures you have taken me on. I have so many of your books and with each one I always feel like I’m apart of the story. You make me fall in love with each one of these characters. I come back often looking for updates on some of my favorites. I can’t wait for the next book and loving the tv series of Cedar Cove. And if you ever get a chance I would love a update on where you think the Midnight Sons characters are. Thanks again for many wonderful stories and all the romance you have brought into my life.
